Plainfield’s contract for every-other-week pickup of recyclables at curbside allows us to reduce
the amount spent on trash disposal. Additional materials may be recycled at the Recycling Shed
(below). The following items may be recycled at curbside.
NEWSPAPERS: Clean & dry. Place in brown PAPER grocery bags and set on top of other
recyclables in bin. Please do NOT tie in bundles.
CATALOGS & 100% GLOSSY: catalogs & magazines now recyclable at curbside. Place in
brown paper bags. Do not tie in bundles.
GLASS: Clear, green and brown bottles & jars. Caps must be removed and thrown away. Labels,
metal "neck rings" need not be removed. Please empty all food and rinse clean. NO other type of
glass is acceptable. NO MASON JARS (Canning type, some spaghetti sauce jars). One piece of
mason type glass spoils a "lot" of recycled glass.
PLASTICS: PET bottles - 16oz, 1 liter & 2 liter soda bottles. Caps must be removed and thrown
away. Labels, "neck rings" and dark plastic bases need not be removed. Please rinse bottles clean
and flatten. HDPE milk, water, cider jugs & bottles - caps must be removed and thrown away.
Please rinse jugs and flatten. Labels need not be removed. No "wide mouth" containers (i.e.
margarine, cool whip, yogurt cups, etc.)
Detergent bottles & other colored HDPE bottles & jugs - Bottles with threaded necks only. Caps
must be removed.
ALUMINUM & TIN CANS: Okay to leave labels on. Remove all food waste and rinse clean. Do
not flatten.

MATERIALS ACCEPTED FOR RECYCLING AT TOWN SHED;
White Office Paper - place in 55-gallon "white paper" drums inside recycling shed. Paper should
be loose, not bundled. Envelopes without windows, labels or Post-its. Remove all paper clips
and rubber bands. Any items that you are not sure qualifies as "white office paper" should go in
the large walk-in trailer "Glossy& Boxboard" located behind shed.
Glossy, Colored & Mixed Paper, plus Boxboard!
Catalogs & Magazines, junk mail, colored paper, fax paper, posters, telephone books and
boxboard (see below).
NO carbon paper, hardcover books, bound reports or egg cartons.
Box Board is collected together with colored and glossy paper in the walk-in trailer. Boxboard is
the gray, brown or white single layered materials - i.e. cereal, shoe, clothing, facial tissues, pasta
boxes, etc. Please note: NO food residue; foil & plastic liners; wax coatings; metal tear strips (like
on wax paper boxes); refrigerated food containers that are water resistant (will not break down in
recycling), No Beer or 6-pack, beverage holders.
CORRUGATED CARDBOARD - Corrugated cardboard has fluting in between layers. Collapse/
flatten corrugated boxes, place in dumpsters to left of shed. Colored corrugated cardboard is
acceptable; lightweight, yellow or tan. NO ASIAN flexible cardboard. Torn or soiled brown
grocery bags are recycled with cardboard.
HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES - We accept Lithium, Cadmium and /or Mercury & rechargeable
batteries, also button batteries. Please place in bags provided and place in battery collection
cardboard mailing box located in shed, next to Motor oil recovery (Battery collection boxes also
located at the Town Libraries)
Fluorescent tubes - up to 6 ft. long, and compact bulbs - place tubes in mailing box in the shed.
USED MOTOR OIL - details at Shed or Town Office.
We are not able to recycle the following items at this time.
NO PROPANE TANKS
Refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, air conditioners and other Appliances containing CFC’s.
(Due to environmental/disposal costs) Can go to Janci Metals at Lebanon landfill.
Monitors (CRT’s) from Televisions & Computers(contain large amounts of lead.) Can go to
Janci Metals.
Newspapers (recycle at curbside, see above)
Egg Cartons (No local demand)
Polystyrene #6 -plastic (too bulky & light to recycle effectively)
Plastic bags (please re-use or recycle at supermarket)
Foam packing "peanuts or blocks" - No source.
Alkaline batteries are not accepted at the shed. Alkaline batteries (some have a green tree on side)
may be disposed of in regular household trash. We do not accept car, motorcycle, or related batteries.
Automotive batteries may be taken to Janci Metals at the Lebanon.
