Emergency Management
The town relies heavily on volunteers and local resources during various natural disaster events. Ice storms, flooding and severe thunderstorms are the most common of these events. In the event of major storm the town will have direct communication with the State’s Office of Emergency Management. In the case of a localized event, ample resources will be available from the town and the state.
If the storm or resulting damage is state-wide it may be two to three days before the state can render the town significant assistance. Residents are encouraged to prepare their own homes for sheltering in place for up to three days. Many residents have installed portable generators and have set aside nonperishable food for use in an emergency.
Plainfield residents, as needed, have access to two or three shelter facilities. When a shelter has been opened it will be announced on the town’s list serve and Facebook page. Residents needing shelter should contact the Town Office (EOC) at 603-469-3201 or the Police Department at 603-469-3344.
For more information residents may also sign up for CodeREDTM alerts right from the town’s website home page. The town also tries to maintain a list of Plainfield residents with special needs. In the event of an emergency these folks are first priority for wellness checks.
