Human Services

Any Plainfield or Meriden resident requiring assistance from the Town should contact the Community Resource Director. In response to your call or email, a discrete meeting will be arranged.

Local Community Services

Residents of the Town of Plainfield can access the following local services.
Note: The food pantry and clothing swap rooms are located in the Christ Community Church on Route 12A (across from the Plainfield Fire Department). Contact the Resource Director for more information about getting items from or donating items to these rooms.
Food Pantry
The Food Pantry is open the 1st Thursday and the 3rd Friday and Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and warmly welcomes all Town residents.
Clothing Swap Rooms
Two rooms contain FREE clothing for adults and children. All clothing is donated and in great condition.
Free Fresh Produce
Free fresh produce from Willing Hands: check the Town calendar for dates and times.
Caring Neighbors
  • Do you live in Meriden or Plainfield?
  • Do you need help with a project around your house (i.e. replacing batteries in your smoke detectors, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn or stacking fire wood)?
  • Do you have a neighbor who might need some help?
  • Would you like to provide a visit or a home cooked meal for someone?
  • Do you or a friend need assistance with something ?
  • Do you need a ride to an appointment or to the store?

There is now a group of Caring Neighbors in Plainfield who are willing to lend a hand to those in our community who need a litttle help or assistance. Each member of the Caring Neighbors group is willing to volunteer their time to assist neighbors who need a hand.

Community Alliance of Human Services
Provides counseling and support for youth and their families, available 24 hours a day; works with court ordered juveniles, maintaining Chandler House, an emergency, temporary home for these clients.

Community Alliance Transportation Center

Grafton County Senior Citizen's Center
Provides services to senior citizens: meals, including deliveries of meals, transportation, adult day care, recreation, health screening and social services.

Southwestern Community Services
Provides and administers Fuel Assistance, Commodity Foods, WIC program, Neighbor Helping Neighbor, and Eldercare programs along with other human service type programs to eligible applicants.

Turning Points Network
Turning Points is Sullivan county's 24-hour task force to end domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking. It provides a variety of services including emergency shelter, advocacy, education and support services.

Volunteers in Action
A program from Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, that provides caring volunteers of all ages who assist neighbors in need of a helping hand. Most frequently used services are: transportation, visitation, and food shopping.
